There have been so many reboots of TV shows lately that have had huge success. I think this is mainly because Hollywood is lacking originality, and people are starting to have nostalgia for the older shows that they grew up with. In today’s blog post, I am going to talk about the ones, in my opinion, were the most successful reboots that have occurred over the last few years.
The one that I think was the most successful one was when they rebooted Boy Meets World on Disney Channel and simply re-titled the series, Girl Meets World. This series followed Cory and Topanga Matthews after they have started a family, and in particularly follows their daughter, Riley’s life in middle and high school. It is basically the same story line of Boy Meets World but through Riley’s eyes. I think that by continuing the story line the way they did, with Cory being Riley’s teacher and having the ultimate tight friend groups in both Girl Meets World and Boy Meets World it made for a flawless reboot series. You even see so many of the original cast of Boy Meets World in Girl Meets World and get to see the story line’s grow through Cory, Topanga, and even Shawn’s lives, as well as having Mr. Feney come back in to help out as well.
Another major reboot was Full House, which was simply renamed, Fuller House. The story line behind Fuller House was along the same concept as Full House, but instead of a single dad, with three girls after their mom died, it was a single mom, of three boys after their dad died. This series is centered around DJ Tanner, and gets help from her sister Stephanie and best friend, Kimmy in helping to raise her three sons. They also move back in to their own home, and Danny, Joey, Jessie, Becky, and Steve make recurring roles in the show as well. So just like in the Boy Meets World reboot, in the Full House reboot, you get to see the growing story line of the original characters as well as the new characters brought to the show.
I think that the main reason these shows are making such successful comeback’s is because they are continuing where the story lines left off in the original series while still bringing some “newness” to people that may not have original grown up watching these shows. They are also shows that are still played on TV or on Netflix where people can still watch the original series and have some kind of idea of where the rebooted shows originated from.
